San Antonio is often referred to as “Military City, USA” and we are proud to wear that title! This nickname dates back to World War II and was made an official city phrase in March of 2017. With a registered trademark and city logo, this name indicates pride in Joint Base San Antonio, the largest joint base in the U.S. Department of Defense. San Antonio’s storied military history goes back approximately 300 years, and in 1910 included the first U.S. military aviation flight at Fort Sam Houston.
